The 2019-2020 season will be Doug's sixth year with Austin Junior Volleyball and fourth season to coach 13 Molten. His 2019 Molten team had a season record of 47-18 and qualified for USAV Junior Nationals, where they finished 5th place (Gold bracket) out of 64 teams. The team also finished 1st place in the Texas Championship Series Finals.
His 2017 and 2018 Molten teams qualified for the Tour of Texas, with the 2018 team advancing to Gold bracket in the Tour Finals. Both teams also finished in Gold bracket at Lone Star Classic.
Doug coached the 2016 13 Cedar Park team that was named "AJV Team of the Year". The team finished with a 56-13 season record, won Silver bracket in the Tour of Texas, and qualified for USAV Junior Nationals in Indianapolis where they went 8-1 and finished 5th place in Gold Bracket.
He received the "New Coach of the Year" award in 2015, his first season with AJV.
He previously coached at Texas Fury Volleyball Club, where he was "Head Coach of the Year" in 2012.
Doug is the high school varsity head coach at Round Rock Christian Academy. In his four years with the program, the Crusaders have compiled an overall record of 130-34-7, and a district record of 36-2 with three consecutive district championships. RRCA has advanced to the State Final Four each of the past three years, and won the TAPPS 3A State Championship in 2017, when Doug was named "Coach of the Year" by the Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches.
He was selected as a head coach for the 2018 FCA All-Star Match, guiding the Blue team to victory in a contest featuring some of the area's top graduated seniors in their final pre-collegiate competition.
From 2012-2014, Doug was the head coach of the 7th/8th grade volleyball teams at RRCA, winning back-to-back district championships in 2013 and 2014 with a perfect 23-0 record in district play and 41-1 overall.
Doug runs the popular Firestorm Volleyball Camp series each summer in Round Rock. He is also a lead coach for numerous developmental programs at Austin Sports Center.
Doug was IMPACT-certified in 2009, and received CAP Level I accreditation from USA Volleyball that same year. He achieved CAP Level II status in 2012 and was recertified in 2016.
Building the foundation for player success with technical skills, Doug also instills key behaviors that are vital to future development. He understands the necessity of risk and even the value of failure as young athletes are asked to step out of their comfort zone to develop new skills, try unfamiliar roles, and meet ever-increasing expectations. He creates a demanding yet positive team environment where players risk, fall, rise, and risk again, with a growth mindset to prepare athletes for high school and beyond.
Doug is an avid runner and has not missed a day of running since May 2006, logging over 13,000 miles (and still counting) during that time. He and his wife have three daughters.
